From October to April there are many land based adventures to be experienced in the various countries that lie within the Arctic Circle. Between June and early September the snow and ice recedes and we can take you on a thrilling expedition cruise to discover the wildlife and spectacular icy scenery of the Arctic Ocean. You may encounter minke and beluga whales, polar bears with their young and huge walrus haulouts. You can enter majestic fjords filled with drifting icebergs, stand on immense glaciers and crunch your way through miles of pack ice on your way to the North Pole.
Exclusive adventures works closely with carefully selected expedition cruise ships which operate a fascinating range of itineraries; a selection of which are set out below. In common with our Antarctic voyages these are relatively small (taking between 100 and 200 guests) purpose built ice-strengthened or ice-breaker vessels which are capable of taking you to remote locations with the aim of getting you ashore and experiencing the glories of this unique environment closely and actively.
Each vessel is expertly crewed and has several hugely experienced expedition guides and an expedition leader. These people take you ashore by zodiac, kayak, lead you on hikes, and give fascinating presentations on-board throughout the voyage.
While each voyage has the excitement and adventure of an expedition all of the vessels are very comfortable and some are downright luxurious. Spacious ensuite cabins and staterooms, delicious cuisine, a library, gym, sauna facilities and lecture auditoriums ensure your comfort and enjoyment and a full range of equipment, including in some cases helicopters enable you to derive the greatest benefit from the experience.
We have set out below a sample of the itineraries that we can arrange during the short, spectacular summer. Ultimately the details are dependent upon weather conditions. The unique geography of the region means that you can explore the Arctic from Canada, Iceland, Spitsbergen, Russia, Norway and Greenland. Several itineraries circumnavigate islands, one travels half way around the Arctic from eastern Russia to Norway and another takes you right to the North Pole itself with the chance to float above it by balloon!
