Family Safari Holiday at Duma Tau, Little Vumbara, Kwetsani Camp and Franschhoek Country House

Day 1

Depart at 1905 from London's Heathrow Airport on the British Airways flight BA055 to Johannesburg.

Days 2 to 4

Arrive at 0655 and connect with the Air Botswana flight BP212 departing at 1000 to Maun. On arrival at 1140 you will be met and transferred by light aircraft to spend three nights on safari at Duma Tau Camp (fully inclusive of meals and activities).

Duma Tau Camp is a fantastic location for a family safari with its sixteen bedded luxury tents situated in a 125,000 hectare private concession bordering onto the Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. The camp is situated close to the confluence of the Savuti Channel and the Linyanti River. Duma Tau is a fantastic camp to start your once in a lifetime family safari.

Duma Tau is built around a shady grove of mangosteen trees, overlooking a large hippo filled lagoon within the Linyanti waterway system. The grunting of the hippos provides pleasant background sounds for guests staying at the camp.

The tented rooms have been specially designed to give maximum atmosphere and comfort. Raised up safely off the ground each room is under thatch with canvas walls. The bathroom facilities are en suite and well appointed, and each room has an additional outside shower. There is a dining room, bar, lounge and plunge pool. The accommodation is extremely comfortable providing security and safety for your loved ones.

Due to the wide variety of terrain in the area, activities are diverse and allow guests time on the water, on land and on foot. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles. The area is famous for its elephants - towards the latter part of the dry season huge herds congregate along Linyanti waterways and lagoons - as well as at waterholes down the Savuti Channel. There is good game viewing to enjoy along the dry Savuti Channel and along the Linyanti. Families are often allocated a 4x4 safari jeep to themselves.

Savuti is featured in the National Geographic film 'Eternal Enemies' where conflicts between hyenas and lions are well documented. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and a pack of wild dog often dens on the reserve. During the dry months sable and roan traverse down to the waterways to complement the impala, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, lechwe, tsessebe and other plains game in the area.

Days 5 to 7

After your morning activity you will be transferred by light aircraft to Little Vumbura Camp where you stay for a further three nights on safari (fully inclusive of meals and activities).

Little Vumbura is located on a very large private concession shared only by its sister camp, Vumbura Plains, which is some distance away. Game drives by open vehicle can be taken during the day and after dark using a spotlight to see nocturnal creatures. You can also enjoy walking, which is best done early in the morning, and game viewing by dugout canoe.

The camp takes just ten guests in six huge tents and furnished with beds and furniture, and en-suite w.c. and shower. Each tent is tastefully decorated and gives guests a feeling of being out in remote Africa - while still being comfortable. There is also a plunge pool where guests can escape the midday heat.

Little Vumbura's concession is located in the northern part of the Okavango in an area that has good water levels all year round, combined with large areas of open plain. The area is particularly rich in wildlife - big herds of buffalo, impressive breeding herds of elephant, a wide range of antelope, giraffe and many other species are all present in abundance. Little Vumbura also has good predators with fine prides of lion, as well as leopard, and the occasional cheetah. From time to time packs of hunting wild dog pass through the concession and to watch these creatures tracking down their prey is a thrilling experience. Your family will experience adventure and excitement whilst learning about the diverse landscapes and habitats of Botswana.

Days 8 to 10

After your morning safari activity you will be transferred by light aircraft to Kwetsani Camp where you stay for three nights (fully inclusive of meals and activities).

Kwetsani Camp is a ten-bedded luxury tented camp located in a private reserve to the west of the Moremi Game Reserve. The large elongated island has areas of open grassland and is heavily wooded with palm, mango and fig trees. The camp is raised on stilts beneath the shady canopy, overlooking the expansive plains.

Accommodation consists of five spacious canvas and reed chalets built on elevated wooden decks, beneath the lush tree canopy. Each room has proper beds, furniture and en-suite facilities with flush w.c, a shower and basin with hot and cold running water.

This location has a particularly wide range of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, buffalo and elephant, also zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and plains game. As is always the case in the Okavango, the birds are stunning. Because Kwetsani is set on a private concession, you can enjoy a very wide range of game viewing activities. You can move further afield to follow the large herds by open vehicle or by going on fascinating wildlife walks with an armed guide. Kwetsani is surrounded by the beautiful waterways of the Okavango, you can also take unforgettable safaris by canoe (dug-out) along the reed lined channels by an experienced Okavango dweller.

Days 11 to 14

After lunch you will be transferred by light aircraft to Maun for flight BP271 departing at 1530 to Cape Town. On arrival at 1800 you will be met and transferred by road to Franschhoek Country House where you stay for four nights (bed and breakfast).

An hour east of Cape Town is the Cape Winelands, a beautiful area of hills and fertile valleys. Viticulture began here in the 18th century as Huguenot settlers brought their knowledge from northern Europe.

Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek each has a charming character with carefully preserved buildings, and estate houses with a mix of European and Cape Dutch architecture can be found tucked away throughout the area. One can spend two or three days exploring the Winelands, enjoying wine tasting independently or with a guide. Between visits there are numerous fine restaurants, golf courses and other pursuits.

Set in the picturesque wine-producing valley of Franschhoek, the Franschhoek Country House is a delightful property very much in keeping with this historic region. This restored manor house and former perfumery dating back to 1890, is situated on the outskirts of the village and is surrounded by enchanting vineyards and majestic mountains.

The Country House offers 14 luxury rooms - most lead out onto balconies or private patios. All rooms have the expected luxuries and amenities including satellite TV, direct dial telephone. Some also feature fire places, under carpet heating and air-conditioning. In addition to this there are 12 new, exclusive villa suites - each suite measures 100 sqm and consists of an entrance portico leading into a large, well appointed lounge. The suites boasts many luxuries including independently air-conditioned bedroom and lounge, an entertainment facility with individual satellite TV, DVD player and a music system that extends from the lounge to the bedroom and bathroom.

A complimentary sherry can be enjoyed in one of the guest lounges alongside a crackling log fire, creating a welcoming atmosphere in winter.

In the afternoon you will be transferred by road to Cape Town Airport to board flight BA058 departing at 1955 to London's Heathrow Airport.

Day 16
