Why Matobo National Park?
This land has long been populated with rhinoceros who are joined by wildebeest, giraffe, eland and kudu. Cheetah, leopard, hyena and troops of baboons also frequent the region. Birdlife in Matobo is diverse – watch fish eagle, pied crow and Egyptian geese. Black eagles are a common sight both soaring overhead and perching on kopje.
Matobo National Park encompasses several river valleys, so you’ll also find pods of hippo and sunbathing crocodile on your safari. You probably won’t see many other people, however – Matobo is pleasantly accessible but doesn’t draw large crowds, so it’s perfect for a private safari experience. A walking safari and tracking rhino on foot is an especially thrilling way to spend an afternoon.
