Why the Kalahari?
From December through April, drenching thunderstorms bring lush greenery and refreshing pools of water to this spectacular region. The Kalahari teems with life – it’s an especially fascinating place for observing smaller animals like meerkats, jackals and brown hyena. You can also spot ostrich, a variety of antelope including the distinctive gemsbok and kudu. Cheetah and black-maned lion also frequent the Kalahari during the wet season, lurking in the short grasses in wait of smaller antelopes.
The Kalahari is a beautiful expanse of sandy plains – it’s a paradise for landscape photographers and anyone seeking a unique safari experience. Nighttime game drives by open vehicle are a special treat here, allowing a glimpse into a way of life that only happens after the sun goes down.
